National Council on the Arts MembersRobert Bennett (U.S. Senate, R-UT) Robert Bennett was appointed to serve on the National Council on the Arts for the 110th Congress by Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. He served previously on the Council in the 109th and 108th Congresses. Senator Bennett was first elected to the Senate in 1992 and is currently serving his third term. In the 110th Congress, he serves on the Senate Appropriations Committee, where he is the ranking member for the Subcommittee on Agriculture, and serves also on the Subcommittee on the Interior and Related Agencies, the NEA's appropriations subcommittee. Senator Bennett serves as Counsel to Republican Leader Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and is a senior member of the Senate Banking Committee, a member of the Joint Economic Committee, and the ranking Republican member of the Senate Rules Committee. As a former time management consultant for business executives with an interest in the technology industry, Bennett also is on the Senate Republican High-Tech Task Force. From Salt Lake City, Senator Bennett graduated from the University of Utah (where he was student body president) with a B.S. in Political Science, and previously worked as the Congressional Liaison at the U.S. Department of Transportation and at the White House as an adviser to President Nixon.
