Did you know there have been four different film and TV adaptions of The Great Gatsby? Jay Gatsby’s been played by Warner Baxter (1926), Alan Ladd (1949), Robert Redford (1974), and on TV by Toby Stephens (2000). In the following Literary Moment, produced by NEA, the late critic Matthew J. Bruccoli talks about how Fitzgerald’s own experiences led to the development of the novel’s title character.
