About Us
The Arts on Radio and Television

From the Chairman

The National Endowment for the Arts is committed to bringing the best of the arts to all Americans. Our grants range from supporting new presentations of theatrical classics and contemporary art to providing arts workshops in schools -- across all fifty states in communities large and small.

The Arts on Radio and Television category exists to make television and radio programs that focus on the arts available to the American public. Each year our grants support the development, production, and distribution of programming that reaches millions of people in every part of the country, assuring the nation the broadest access to the arts.

The Arts Endowment is especially committed to helping broadcasters present topflight performances of dance, drama, musical theater, opera, vocal and instrumental music, and jazz to a national audience, and to encouraging the creation of substantial documentaries dealing with the lives and works of outstanding artists in all fields. If you want to profile Marian Anderson, W.H. Auden, Thomas Eakins, Agnes de Mille or another significant artist, showcase the work of a great orchestra, theater or ballet company, or celebrate the music of Steve Reich or Paquito D'Rivera for a national television or radio audience, this is the place to apply.

We look forward to receiving and reviewing your applications for the Arts on Radio and Television. It is through our support of the best of these projects that we will continue to make excellent art and arts education available throughout the United States.
