| Purpose:
To provide classroom workshops and staging opera productions with school children, grades K-12, in underserved and rural communities of
(state) in order to:
- Inform and educate attendees about opera
- Teach musical forms that are used in opera
- Encourage enjoyment of opera as a musical form
OUTCOME #1: Students demonstrate knowledge
about opera ( K-6)
Indicators:
- # and % of children who can tell the story of the opera being
performed; AND
- # and % of children who can describe X of the characters in the
opera,
AND
- # and % of children who can identify the type of voice (Soprano,
alto,
tenor, bass) with the character singing the part.
OUTCOME #2: Students demonstrate knowledge
about opera (Middle and high school)
Indicators:
- and % of students who can identify the opera’s composer, AND
- # and % of students who can identify the type of opera being
performed; AND
- # and % of students who can identify X out of X opera terms
OUTCOME #3: Students demonstrate knowledge
about musical forms used in
opera (Middle and high school)
Indicators:
- # and % of students who can identify the opera’s composer,
AND
- # and % of students who can list X types of musical forms used in
an
opera; AND
- # and % of students who can identify X number of operas from listening
to recordings.
OUTCOME #4: Students demonstrate enjoyment
of opera
Indicators:
- # and % of students who listen to opera on radio or CD at least
5
times in X months; OR
- # and % of students who watch opera on video tape or television
once
in X months; OR
- # and % of students who attend operatic performance in X months.
