To support the publication of poetry titles selected from two competitions: the Beatrice Hawley Award and the New York/New England Award. Selected poets will read from their works at venues around the country.

Bates College (on behalf of Bates Dance Festival)

To support commissioning, presentation, outreach and educational activities. New Voices/New Works will include Doug Varone and Dancers, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Stephen Koplowitz/Robert Een and a group of disabled artists.

To support the creation of Orientalism. This new work by Armenian-American composer Alan Shavarsh Bardezbanian will explore the West's relationship with Islamic and Asian cultures.

To support the recording, editing and mastering of concerts for statewide radio broadcasts. The Portland Symphony Orchestra performances will reach more than 52,500 people via Maine Public Radio stations during 2003.
