La Ruta Panorámica
Partners (cont.)

Each of the primary partners brings a special expertise to the collective wisdom and energy of La Ruta. At the same time, all four organizations have a strong base in their respective communities.

Pregones Theater is a producing as well as presenting theater organization. Its mission is to create innovative, challenging theater rooted in Puerto Rican traditions, and to present performing artists from diverse cultures. Its programming includes a series of theater offerings by its ensemble, which also tours; engagements of visiting artists; cultural activities for students and adults through programs with schools and local organizations; and innovative collaborations with other nationally-known theater groups including Roadside Theater and Junebug Productions.

AMLA—Asociación de Músicoa Latinoamericanos— is a regional multicultural arts organization whose mission is to develop and disseminate all forms of Latin music. Its programs include the presentation of Latino music through concerts and festivals, a school of Latin music, and an audio/visual training studio. Located in the heart of Philadelphia’s Latino commercial district, AMLA is building a new cultural center that will anchor the city’s efforts to create a cultural arts zone as part of a larger plan for economic development there.

The IBA — Inquilinos Boricuas en Accion — is a community development corporation located in Boston. Its mission, to develop and empower the Villa Victoria region of Boston’s South End, includes fostering the human, social and economic well-being of its residents, promoting and advocating for Latinos throughout Boston, and perpetuating Latino cultural and artistic heritage. IBA was created by local Puerto Rican residents to preserve their neighborhood from an urban renewal program. Through their efforts, they gained control of the redevelopment process of their neighborhood. Today, the cultural component of IBA’s mission is realized through a cultural awareness program for students, a performance series at the local Jorge Hernandez Cultural Center and sponsorship of other cultural events.

GALA Hispanic Theater was established in 1976 to preserve and promote Hispanic culture in the United States and expose U.S. audiences to Hispanic heritage through the presentation of bilingual theater. GALA produces an annual season of plays in both Spanish and English and offers training to support the growth of bilingual artists. In partnership with Washington Performing Arts Society, GALA produces and presents Hispanic performing artists in Washington, DC. Post-performance discussions with the performers and invited specialists enrich the experience for audience members. Outreach activities include a bilingual program for children and a bilingual touring program for high schools in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution’s Discovery Theater. GALA also provides training for young Hispanic artists through classes in acting and voice.
